Creature maker
Every creature here is one number in disguise. Drag to change it and a completely different animal appears. Find one you like and take it home as a picture.

What is Creature Maker?
Creature Maker is a free online toy for making your own creature. You drag across the screen and a new animal appears, with whiskers, fins, spirals and tails that no one drew. Pick the colours you like, give it a moment to settle, then save it as a picture or copy a link that brings exactly that creature back. There is no download, no sign-up and no account. It works on a phone, and it was made by the kids' animation company behind Monal Kids.
How to make a creature
- 01
Drag
Move your finger or mouse across the dark screen. Left and right change the creature's shape; up makes it dusty and delicate, down makes it chunky.
- 02
Colour it
Choose a palette under the screen: Monal, Sunset, Himalaya, Candy, Forest or Ink. "Surprise me" picks a new creature for you.
- 03
Keep it
Press "Save my creature" for a picture, "Copy link" to send it to a friend, or "Embed" to put it on your own page.
Twelve creatures to start with
Every creature has a name, and the same creature always gets the same name. Tap one to open it in the maker, then drag to make it yours.
Why every creature is a number
Behind the screen is one short rule, z → z² + c, applied again and again to every point in the picture. Points that stay close become the creature's body; points that fly away become the space around it, coloured by how quickly they left. The letter c is the only thing you change when you drag, so every creature is really one number, and that number is what the link remembers. The Monal logo is the same kind of picture, drawn from c = −0.8 + 0.156i.
For parents and teachers
Creature Maker is a gentle way into a big idea: a tiny rule, repeated, can make something that looks alive. In a classroom it works as a five-minute starter on patterns, symmetry or coordinates, and the "For the curious" panel shows the real numbers for older children who want them. The Embed button puts the toy on a class website or a learning platform, with no accounts and nothing collected. Printed creatures make a good wall.
Questions
Is Creature Maker free?
Yes, completely. There is nothing to buy, no account to make and no advertising. It is a toy made by an animation studio, not a product.
Do I need to download anything?
No. It runs in the browser on a phone, a tablet or a computer. Open the page and start dragging.
Can I save or print my creature?
Yes. "Save my creature" downloads a picture you can print, set as a wallpaper or send to someone. "Copy link" gives you a web address that brings the exact same creature back.
Is it safe for children?
Yes. It is marked for all ages, collects nothing, shows no ads and has no chat or sharing inside it. The only things it makes are pictures.
What is a fractal creature?
A shape drawn by repeating one small rule over and over. Here the rule is z → z² + c, and every creature is a different value of c. Zoom in and the edges keep showing new detail, which is what makes fractals fractal.
Can I put Creature Maker on my class website?
Yes. Press "Embed", copy the code and paste it into any page that accepts HTML. It keeps whichever creature and colours you had chosen.
Made by the team behind Monal Kids
