An animatic is a storyboard turned into a rough video. The panels are timed to the voice track, music and sound effects. It shows the pacing and length of every shot.
An animatic uses still storyboard panels to test timing and story. The final animation adds full character movement, lip sync, colour, lighting, effects and the final sound mix. Put simply, the animatic is the plan and the final animation is the finished film.
